TANDBERG Telepresence Unifies Large Telco After =
Three-Way Merger
One Communications Changes the Face of Human Resources
NEW YORK AND OSLO, NORWAY, May 13, 2008 - =
TANDBERG=AE (OSLO: TAA. OL), a leading global provider of telepresence, high-definition video conferencing and mobile video solutions, =
today announced that One Communications has implemented TANDBERG’s =
telepresence systems to unify the company following a three-way =
merger.
As a result of a 2006 merger of three companies, One Communications =
became the largest privately held competitive local exchange carrier =
(CLEC) in the U.S. With dual headquarters in Waltham, Mass., and =
Rochester, N.Y., and company officers split between several locations =
throughout the country, TANDBERG telepresence systems have increased the =
consistency, cost-effectiveness and quality of office collaboration.
“The TANDBERG system not only saves time and money related to travel, =
but it shortens the duration of meetings,” said Howard Janzen, One =
Communications’ CEO, who uses a TANDBERG system in his home office in =
Kansas City. “We selected TANDBERG after careful consideration of all =
the available technologies, and their systems made perfect sense based =
on our present and future needs. We can grow into the system and even =
offer our customers services that support TANDBERG’s products.”
Changing the face of HR
With plans to innovate =
human resources management, One Communications also uses telepresence =
for remote personnel recruitment. “We have already used the system to =
recruit a number of candidates including an executive and several =
specialty engineers,” said Kristen Vacchetto, Corporate Staffing Manager =
for One Communications. “Using telepresence for the initial screening of =
candidates located outside of the local area is more economical than =
travel and a much more effective alternative to a phone interview since =
executives can assess candidates’ facial expressions.”
TANDBERG Experia telepresence units with true-to-life participants on =
three, large HD plasma screens enable executives to clearly read body =
language during interviews and evaluate a candidate’s character. When =
executives ask tough questions, they are able to assess the candidate’s =
reaction.
One Communications plans to use the =
telepresence systems for other human resources functions as well, =
including performance reviews, trainings and staff meetings. When used =
for internal communications, executives can determine if information is =
well-received by employees. Video presentations contribute to boosting =
overall presentation skills among the company’s employees.
One Communications currently utilizes six TANDBERG telepresence =
systems, connecting Waltham, Rochester and Green Bay, Wis., and many =
desktop high-definition video units in the offices of its executives. A =
complete return on investment is anticipated for all purchased equipment =
within one year, according to Russ Oliver, One Communications’ Executive =
Vice President of Strategy.
“TANDBERG’s enterprise-wide telepresence creates an authentic =
in-person meeting experience and provides an ideal platform for =
communication and interaction,” said Fredrik Halvorsen, TANDBERG CEO. =
“The quality of TANDBERG telepresence makes meeting participants feel as =
though they’re having a conversation with colleagues right across the =
table—while actually being miles apart.”
